Summary

The City of Rockville’s ROCKIDZ Youth Mentoring Program is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Program Assistant. This role supports recreation activities, academic enrichment, and mentorship for elementary-aged youth. This position plays a key role in providing a safe, fun, and supportive environment where children can grow socially, emotionally, and academically. 

Examples of duties

· Assist in planning and leading recreation activities, including soccer, basketball, and group games. 

· Provide mentorship and positive role modeling for elementary-aged children. 

· Support academic enrichment activities such as homework help and structured learning. 

· Supervise youth during program hours, maintaining safety and appropriate behavior. 

· Assist with program setup, cleanup, and equipment organization. 

· Help maintain attendance records and activity documentation as required. 

· Collaborate with program staff to implement high-quality youth programming. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

· Working with elementary-aged children in recreation, education, mentoring, or youth development. 

·  Ability to lead recreational programs (soccer, basketball, group play). 

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to assist in community outreach. 

· Ability to support academic enrichment activities. 

· Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to safely operate cars and vans. 

· Must pass all required background checks. 

Preferred Qualifications:

· Coursework or training in education, recreation, child development, or related fields. 

· CPR/First Aid certification. 

· Prior experience in structured mentoring programs.

· Ability to maintain positive relationships with youth, families, and coworkers.
